Before you set goals for the individuals in your team, make sure you set them the entire team first. This is important because establishing goals for individuals becomes easy when the goals for the entire team are defined already.

The goals of your team are your goals. This fact makes you set goals and evaluate the performance of your team without any bias. You will evaluate the performance of your team for what they actually contributed to fulfill the goals of the team.

  1. Enlighten Your Team Of Organizational Goals

Now that your team knows how their individual performance can contribute to the organizational success and that their individual goals are defined, it is easier for you to keep track of their performance and evaluate it without any bias.

  1. Collaborate With Your Team

As a manager, it is important to collaborate with your team. Do not just define their goals; involve them. Get their input on goals. Don’t make it a one-sided process, discuss with the individuals of your team and take their suggestions on setting up goals for them individually as well as for the entire team.

This collaboration with your teammates will make you understand them better and know where they need improvement. This can help you evaluate their performance without any bias

  1. Observe And Collect Adequate Data

This is one of the most important things that supervisors tend to miss. Having observational data on your team members helps you make more accurate evaluations of performance.

Keep the observational data current and do it frequently. This helps you manage performance reviews effectively and evaluate it without bias.
